After a heavy rain or overfilling, your pool’s water level can rise too high—putting strain on your skimmer and filtration system. Fortunately, it’s easy to lower the water using your pump system’s waste valve and a collapsible hose.
Start by unrolling your collapsible blue hose and laying it out toward a part of your yard where some extra water runoff won’t be a problem. This could be a gravel area, garden bed, or a space with good drainage.
Next, go to your pump system and locate the waste valve. Slowly open it—just enough to let water start flowing. Make sure the handle is in line with the waste pipe or filter pipe. You’ll know it’s working when the hose fills and starts draining water.
Let it run until your pool water is back to a safe level—typically halfway up the skimmer opening. Then close the valve, roll your hose back up, and store it for next time.
This quick process is a safe and effective way to manage water levels without needing to call in professional help. Just be mindful of where you’re directing the water and avoid over-draining.
